Module 5: Collaborative Community
Overview:
Expectations:
By the end of this orientation course, you will:
- Conduct an online collaboration environment (e.g., google groups and google docs)
- Demonstrate that you can navigate online tools (e.g., using google drive for submitting assignments)
- Use appropriate terminology related to e-Learning
- Assess digital literacy and academic integrity, and the impact it has on your learning
Content:
You will be joining an online group that you can rely on for support throughout your journey. The group will also be useful in answering questions you may have, sharing external resources that you found useful, sharing interesting articles you have found, and you can use it as a place to have a nice coffee break discussions of current issues.
As the group is something that belongs to you and other students please make sure you communicate any norms and netiquette that you wish to uphold. In other words, the group will share collective values and have negotiated rules of engagement.
In the case that a dispute between members occurs, I will allow members to resolve their own disputes. The strategy that I will allow you to use to resolve disputes is through using case studies. You are encouraged to examine the steps to resolving different kinds of problems and study those issues before creating your own case studies that you will be able to present to each other in the discussion area.

Reflect:
Below you find a paragraph that I, as a teacher, continue to reflect on in my teaching practices. I hope that you will find that this course helps to address some of these questions, and I welcome any of your feedback throughout the course to ultimately keep on improving this course.
As a student, you have the ability to also teach the teacher!
"We know today that optimal process, invention, and implementation relies on the synergy of independent thought, vision, effort and collaborative practice. Both the individual and the team matter in this process. Hence, how do we teach students to become optimal collaborators, and in what ways do we become successful collaborators ourselves? How do we foster individual choice and voice while also developing collaborative practice and success?" --- Maureen Devlin, edM, NBPTC
